Paid Traffic Sources for Pay Per Call Advertising
Your source of traffic is the bread and butter for your pay per call success. Choose your traffic source wisely and master it before you bounce to another one by the first sign of failure. The grass is always greener on the other side.
With most of the following traffic sources you can generate purely mobile traffic as well as desktop traffic, tablet traffic or a mix out of those. In the beginning it’s easier to work with mobile traffic only where click-to-call options are available.
Most people start with Google Ads (formerly known as Google AdWords). Millions of people search the web through Google every hour and these people can be reached through Adwords. Google is the most busy search engine worldwide so paid search advertising is therefore highly competitive.
Google Ads has a lot of potential, it’s Call-Only Ads allow you to almost work without a landing page, your first traffic stream can be in place in a matter of a day or two but paid search is also a hard nut to crack!
Bing Ads is the small brother of Adwords but still a traffic source worth considering. Campaigns that work on Adwords will also work on Bing but some campaigns that work on Bing fail on Adwords. At the moment Bing does not offer Call Only, which means that if you don’t have a highly converting landing page, Bing is of no use to you. I hope they will change that in the near future.
Facebook Ads can be a great source of traffic, too. I haven’t worked with Facebook yet so I can’t give much insight about it. The one thing I know is, “be aware of the guidelines”. Mobile Pay Per View
If you are experienced with building highly converting landing pages you might consider working with mobile pay per view platforms. As you are charged on the number of impressions, clicks through ppv are often cheaper than clicks through ppc but on the other hand building a highly targeted traffic stream is more challenging.
I use the term ppv as an umbrella term for traffic sources like “mobile pop traffic”, “demand-side platform (DSP)”, “real-time bidding platforms (RTB)” or “Cost per thousand impression (CPM) platforms”. Here are a few networks that offer mobile ppv and are worth checking out:
